Unless you live in Colorado which used to forbids its citizens from catching rain water, you should indeed set yourself up to do so. Doing so can help you keep up with the watering of your lawn at the same time lower your water bill. Like for us folks in Texas it is definitely something to think about. You can use different types of container including a stainless steel drums.
What you can do is simply place an open bucket (I recommend a 55 gallon one) at the base of your roof’s run off. You will be shocked at just how fast you can fill up a 55 gallon container with just a couple of mild rain storms. This water can be used for watering your garden and cleaning.
I've been telling my husband about making one for we are getting a lot of rain during spring and we definitely need it for our yard during summer. I bet we can fill 10-20 of these barrel in a day.
