Savvy Solutions to New Year's Resolution

Are people resolution savvy? According to statistics, nearly 90% of people who make resolutions break them. So much for savvy! Take a look at this these three popular resolutions and some solutions for bringing savvy back.

1. LOSE WEIGHT
If you've made this resolution but find yourself standing in a long line to order a Sprinkles red velvet cupcake, you need to rethink your resolution! Losing weight is always on the top of everyone's resolution list, but beware. When you pledge to go on a "diet" and say, "This will absolutely, positively be my LAST cupcake," you can count on standing in that line next day for another cupcake.

Savvy Solution:

Never, NEVER say "diet." The minute you utter the word you'll be craving fattening foods because you already feel deprived. If weight loss if your goal, start by eating the foods you like in smaller portions. Then, work on cutting back on fats and sweets. Approach this slowly. You'll be much more successful. And, most importantly.. if you slip and cheat, dont just give up! Pick yourself up and try again.

2. START EXERCISING
If you wore a leotard, shiny tights, leg warmers and head bands the last time you worked out, an aerobic class may not be quite right for you; not at this point anyway. if you attend, regardless of attire, you will be cursing your instructor for working muscles you didn't even know you had.

Savvy Solution:

Grab your sneakers. Grab a friend. Take a walk. Walking is one of the best forms of exercise and almost anyone can do it. Get that heart rate up, but don't let yourself get winded. You should be able to talk while walking. Walk and talk about the latest Hollywood gossip. The time will fly by. Once you've built up a little endurance-then attend an aerobic class. But first, treat yourself to some black jazz pants and don't forget to leave those leg warmers at home!

3. SAVE MONEY
This resolution can be harder than dieting and exercise put together. If the upcoming Prada spring line contains the only purses you don't already own, this will definitely be painful. Is Jimmy Choo sending you personal invites for wine tasting events at this house? You'd better prepare yourself for some drastic measures.

Savvy Solutions:
This tough resolution calls for tough solutions. You could more away without giving Jimmy Choo your new mailing address. Or ask Prada if they have a layaway plan, causing you to be promptly taken off their mailing list. The best thing to do is to decide what item you can't live without. If shoes are your passion, buy fabulous shoes, but try to save money on other items like purses and clothing. This way you can continue to buy shoes and be blissfully happy.

The problem with resolution is that we try to bite off more than we can chew. Think small. Ser one or two resolutions and be specific. Be persistent. If you're still having a tough time meeting your resolutions, how about thinking outside of the resolution box.

Resolve to do something to help a family member or a friend. That maybe one resolution you're able to keep. Afterward, welcome back your new found savvy!
