Salmonela Outbreak

I was browsing online today and checking e-mails and read about this outbreak.

"ATLANTA – Health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak that reportedly has sickened nearly 400 people in 42 states, but they do not yet know exactly how the bacteria has been spreading.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not named all the states, but Ohio health officials have reported at least 50 people in 18 counties have been sickened by salmonella bacteria since October.

Most people infected with salmonella develop diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.

Officials say steps to protect against the illness include careful handling and preparation of raw meat, and frequent hand washing."

I just have to post it here to and hopefully you my dear readers are taking all necessary precaution when handling raw meat. Being sick specially when you have small children is a bit harder compare to being sick and its just you.

I remember the times when the 3 of us (me, hubby and my little girl) had food poisoning last year. It was one of the times that I wish I have relatives that are close to at least check on my child. My little girl was the first one who had the symptoms and a few days later I woke up throwing up. Couple of hours later my husband was in the bathroom as well. The first few days was the hardest part. But we made it through and after that incidents it was time to make sure that all the food being cook in the house is safe. We also did some thinking about the places that we eat to. I think we got the food poisoning from one of the place that we ate from.

So I hope the information I shared today will be something valuable.
