If you received an amaryllis as a holiday gift, here's how to encourage it to re-bloom next year so you can continue to enjoy it:- Keep the plant in a bright spot and water it when the soil feels dry.
- After all danger of frost has passed, plant it outdoors in a partially shaded location.
- Before the first frost in autumn, pot up the plant and move it back indoors.
- Cut off the dead foliage and stop watering it. (Many gardeners put it in a dark spot, such as a closet, so as not to look at a barren pot.)
- The plant will start to send up new growth in October. Once it does, resume watering and move it to a bright spot. The plant should bloom again.
Keep your bulb happy and healthy for seasons to come!
