A couple of years ago, my mom has to go a surgery to remove the cataract that is spreading on her eye. That time only one eye had the cataract. The surgery was successful and so far she never had any problem after that. Now, she might undergo another surgery due to cataract issue again. This time it's her other eye that got it. My mother is on that age where cataract is common and so my oldest sister told my other sister to get a second opinion just to make sure.
And the funny thing is that on my Anatomy and Physiology class we
are studying the eye. I found a few information about it and was amazed to know that it is actually one of the leading cause of blindness. What happen when is that when you have the cataract the normally clear crystalline lens within the eye becomes cloudy. We dissect some sheep eye the other day in order to study its part and it was pretty interesting. Also, I found a great site called CataractFreeAmerica.org which is a non profit organization that help illegible seniors to get free cataract surgery. It would have been nice if my mother is here so we can check if she can be illegible for it. According to the site, doctors might be able to reduce the fees for eligible seniors, accept existing insurance like Medicare and they might even provide surgery for those who doesn't have insurance. To read further on these information you can head out to Cataract Free America and read about the eligibility, benefits as well as how you can avail a free surgery.
