Looking for musical instrument?

I was browsing around today and I came across a website that sells used instruments and accessories and I've always wanted to get a flute for myself. I used to be able to play at least one song on a recorder but now I can't even remember most of the notes. But, it doesn't mean that I can't get me a flute right? Well, maybe I have to wait for the flute for a while. Priority changes as we move forward.

Since I was on the website I went ahead and browse for other musical instrument. My daughter has been telling me that she wants to learn how to play the piano. And if we decided for her to take some lessons it would be nice to have a piano at home that she can practice in.

So, I found this one.

This is a gently used Williams Symphony Elite Digital Piano with gloss finish.

Here's some of the features/overview of this stunning piano:

88 full-size graded hammer-action weighted keys w/adjustable touch response
64 note polyphony
138 voices (128 GM voices + 10 Asian folk voices)
Dual and split voice modes
Reverb and chorus effects
Metronome
100 rhythm styles with orchestrated auto-accompaniment patterns and variations
Harmony mode transforms one-note melodies into fully orchestrated pieces
3-track, 4 song recorder
50 play-along practice songs, with included songbook
2 headphone jacks allow silent practice mode
Built-in amplified speakers
Stereo line input and output
Microphone input
MIDI In/Out
USB port connects to computer (MIDI via USB)
Sustain, sostenuto, and soft pedals

According to the website you can choose a tone of 138 different instruments or if you don't want that you can choose from 100 different rhythm styles. It also comes with a sliding key cover.

This gorgeous instrument would look good in the living area.

What do you all think? I am not a piano expert so any heads up would be really nice. I love how it looks on the picture so far, but as far as the other features I am not really sure about them. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Detox Treatment: How Effective?

It's a big decision and a lot of support is involved in order to go through opiate detox treatment. Support from immediate family as well as friends is a must if someone wants to be successful with this kind of treatment. This is my personal belief.

In order to be able to go through the treatment plan, the person must undergo detoxification process. This is the process of removing/getting rid of the drugs/alcohol of the addicted person body and getting the person physically stable.

This process is best achieve under the care of a health care professional because of the danger to the person detoxing. There are many health concerns when a person is undergoing detox. A few things that can happen are:

- the person may experience delirium or in medical term DT's or delirieum tremens. According to PubMed Health "Delirium tremens is a severe form of alcohol withdrawal that involves sudden and severe mental or nervous system changes. Symptoms most often occur within 72 hours after the last drink..."
- seizure can occur
- nausea and vomiting
- rapid heart rate (hyperventilation)
- tremors

If the person is addictive to a certain medications or prescription drugs, the doctor can safely detox the patient by prescribing lesser dosage until the body will get used to lower dosage. But there are times that this process is not effective.

If you know a love one that are going through some type of addiction, its best to intervene as early as possible. Find some support system that will be able to help and consult a professional in order for this process to be effective.

Passion for Music

I have a 5 years old daughter who loves music, loves to sing, loves to dance and there are times that she even knows the lyrics better than I do. Last night we were singing a song from a famous band, which I am not going to mentioned :) but from out of nowhere she just said, "Mommy we should start a band, I will be the singer and you can play the drum" and I was like, "We can totally do that!"

I've always wanted to learn how to play the drum. But it looks like it's so complicated. I can use one drum and that's about it.

My question is do I need to encourage her love of playing musical instrument while she is young or maybe wait a few more years to see if she is really going to love it. In this way I don't waste money and time. Or maybe I can go ahead and buy one of those electronic drum set and let her just have a go with it. She may not be the only one that will love it. I know I will definitely have a turn with it and maybe even my husband.

Easy way to send flowers

One of the thing that I really like about the latest technology today is you can do your shopping without living your home. Take for example, you want to send a gift for someone, let's say a flower. All you have to do is turn your computer on, make sure that you are connected to the internet of course, type in send flowers online on your search box, or just type in flowers and there's hundreds of website that you can visit and search for flower arrangement. Now if you want to be specific on what you're looking for, just change your keyword search. You can also narrow your search to your local area by adding your city.

I found this website that don't charge a service fee and delivery is included on the price and they also have a collection that when someone order they donate 18% of the gross from each item purchased from that collection. Here's a sample of an arrangement from the collection.

Here's another one that I really love because of the pop of color. It's cheery and fun, lavender roses, hydrangea, calla-lily, hyacinth, and more.

HP NetBooks

As an older student, there are times that I still prefer to write using a pen and paper during lecture instead of using a computer to take notes. But there are a lot of students now a days that prefer using a laptop to take to school to do note taking and pretty much everything else. Well instead of using a bulky laptop why note use an hp netbooks.

Let me give you some of the benefits of using a netbook.

I'ts lightweight. Netbooks tend to be smaller, lighter and have smaller screen.

They are super compact. You can easily whip out your netbook and take notes without annoying student next to you, compare to pulling a full 17 inch laptop inside a crowded lecture hall.

I'm only giving you 2 but if you want to find out what other benefits you can get, all you have to do is check out the features of netbook.

Stadiometer??!

Before I went to nursing school, I have absolutely no idea of the terminologies, let alone the names of the different instrument used by the hospitals, clinics, nurses, doctors or any other medical personnel. When I came across the word stadiometer I immediately thought it's something that you used for measuring something... because it has meter on the word. Well, it turns out it is "a device for measuring height that typically consists of a vertical ruler with a sliding horizontal rod or paddle which is adjusted to rest on the top of the head" that's according to merriam webster dictionary.

Here's a picture of it.

There you go folks, you learned something new everyday.
